One word on XP Mode in Windows 7 (Enterprise and Ultimate only) once you install apps in the virtual xp mode machine you can just launch the apps from your startmenu on the host, you wouldn't even know if was running on a VM if you didn't set it up.Garethnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4533777417600103698.post-81884724284543726572010-09-07T03:42:03.189+02:002010-09-07T03:42:03.189+02:00Dude, many thanks for this informative post. I actually got into VirtualBox when I was using Ubuntu (karmic koala) -- before I ditched it for Linux Mint 8, which is a kick-ass distro based on Ubuntu.
See my VM pic desktop here:
http://maxtheitpro.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/running-XP-inside-Ubuntu-Linux-with-VirtualBox.jpg

Right now I'm using Windows 7, which is a breath of fresh air (finally!!) and nix for servers. So with the FREE VMware Player 3.1.1, can I create my own VMs now? Or does some1 have to create it in Workstation? I'm confused. I know that VirtualBox being available for free has really ruffled the feathers of the VMware's creators.

Oh, my pal has a 27" iMac and she needed Windoze for her ABC Chaos (file encryption for her local bank), Outlook Express (she's an addict), and Quick Books 2003 Pro. So I set her up with VirtualBox but it was flakey with USB drive support.
Then she got Parallels Desktop for Mac which was bloody amazing. But now she's running Windows 7 in BootCamp since she hates the Mac Finder and Mac Mail (women!!!). Now she's rethinking about going back to OS X. Oh brother!!! :-)

Cheers dude!

MaxMax - The IT Prohttp://MaxTheITpro.comnoreply@blogger.com
